POP3 (Post Office Protocol version 3) is one of the most common methods for retrieving email from a mail server. Think of it like collecting physical mail from a post office – once you pick it up, it's removed from the post office and stored locally on your device.

When you use a POP3 email account, your email client (like Outlook, Thunderbird, or Apple Mail) connects to the server, downloads all new messages to your computer or phone, and typically deletes them from the server. This means:

• Pros: Your emails are stored locally, so you can access them offline. It saves server storage space.
• Cons: Emails are usually tied to one device. If your device fails, you could lose all messages unless you've configured a backup.

This differs from IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol), which keeps emails on the server, syncing them across all your devices. POP3 is often better if you primarily use a single computer for email and want to keep a local archive.

To set up a POP3 account, you'll need your email address, password, and the server settings provided by your hosting company, usually in this format:

• Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: mail.yourdomain.com (Port 995 with SSL)
• Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: mail.yourdomain.com

Remember to check the option "Leave a copy of messages on the server" in your email client if you want to access the same emails from another device later.
