| Description | This is a feature request for the FEM workbench It would be incredibly powerful if you could select regions of the mesh by their intersection with other shapes. For example, if I could make a shape and apply forces or pressures to the region that is the intersection of a face and the shape. Particularly once all this can be scripted using python. | ||||

AFAIK this is possible with 0.16 release for materials, shell thicknesses, beam sections and all constraints. It is just the way FreeCADs FEM works. What is not possible is to save these regions independet off all objects directly inside the mesh and export the mesh to unv including this regions. The request describes the grouping. This is needed especially for other solvers which work on the mesh on not on the geometry. To make it easy to set constraints. Groups of mesh nodes are needed. FreeCAD SMESH data model supports groups already and can load and save them to unv. It is not possible to define such groups in FreeCAD. This is what the request is about. |

Lately there has been development in this regard. The GMSH mesh object has been added. Furthermore a mesh region object and a mesh group object which will work together with the GMSH mesh object. With them it is possible to create mesh groups and save them to unv. From my point of view we could close this. |
