Summary0001716: Snap-To does not work reliably
DescriptionWhen creating a new line in Draft and ENDPOINT is set in Snap-To, the end of the new line doesn't always stop at the endpoint of the target line. The endpoint of the new line will frequently shift from a short distance from the target endpoint to a short distance off the end of the target endpoint.
Steps To ReproduceGo to the DRAFT wb
Select Create a 2-point Line
Go to Snap-To and make sure ENDPOINT is the only light colored box
Zoom-in quite a bit to the first target line endpoint
Go to the end of the first target line and mouse-click left
Zoom-out
Zoom-in quite a bit to the second target line endpoint
Go to the end of the second target line and mouse-click left
Zoom-out
Go to the PART wb
left mouse-click PART
left mouse-click SHAPE BUILDER
left mouse-click FACE FROM EDGES
press and hold CTRL
left mouse-click all four lines
left mouse-click CREATE
response: WIRE IS NOT CLOSED
Additional InformationOS: Debian GNU/Linux 7.6 (wheezy)

SoQt version: 1.5.0
OCC version: 6.7.0

Somewhere in the system I found a way to improve precision from 0.5% to 0.1%. This did not help. Even so, an endpoint should be an exact endpoint regardless of any precision setting.

This may have been a problem in that old version but I can not replicate this in your example with 0.14 release (version 3703) or in 0.15 development (version 3966)

I would say this is an old issue that has sense been fixed.

I agree with quick61.
I opened Double-Helix_fix.fcstd, deleted both lines, made two new lines by snapping to endpoints of the helices, then used the following instructions:
==========
Go to the PART wb
left mouse-click PART
left mouse-click SHAPE BUILDER
left mouse-click FACE FROM EDGES
press and hold CTRL
left mouse-click all four lines
left mouse-click CREATE
==========
Result = success per file 20140831c_mantis1716.fcstd

Agree with both of you. This work as expected and I get the same result as bejant.

The FreeCAD version is obsolete, this sort of thing usually turns out to be user error, due to working planes and other complications.

Has this been discussed in the Help forum?

Please always ask about bugs in the Help forums first there are more eyes there and it potentially reduces the work load on developers having to deal with tickets that do not turn out to be bugs. Thus helps keeping developers developing. :-)

I will close this ticket.

@ fester2251 please move this discussion to the Help forum, if you have not already done so. Also update your FreeCAD. :-)

If you don't know how to or can't get it to work then I suggest you switch to a Ubuntu based distro, I use Kubuntu myself, then you can take advantage of the automatic updates from the Ubuntu PPAs. But there are others running Debian so it is possible to run an up to date FreeCAD but possibly not as easy as on Ubuntu and its derivatives.

Not repeatable in current FreeCAD, suspected user error, reporter should discuss on the Help forum.
